Finding Yourself: What Is It and Why Is It Important?
If you're more of a visual person, then watch the video above to get an understanding of why Finding Yourself is important.
Hello Dope Souls and REAL Ones,
Welcome to Mental Health Monday. This week is about “Finding Yourself”. Have you ever felt like you’re going through the motions of life? That there has to be something more, but you don’t know what it is or where to find it? Many people feel this way, and that’s because they haven’t taken the time to discover who they are. The process of discovering who you are is a huge part of life. Discovering and knowing who we are establishes our sense of self-worth, our confidence, our goals, and our purpose in life. Finding yourself looks different for everyone and that’s okay. We all interpret and perceive things differently, and our perceptions have an impact on how we view ourselves and live our lives. Finding yourself also means feeling at peace with the person you’ve become. Are you at peace with the person you see in the mirror? With that being said, if you feel like you don’t know yourself or like you’re not being your most authentic self, please know there’s still time to find yourself. Or, if you once knew yourself but got lost in depression, a draining relationship, or other hardships, please know there are several ways to learn how to find yourself again (more on that in a bit).
Why is Finding Yourself Important?
Helps you identify your purpose
Helps you identify your motivations in life
Helps you identify your needs, wants, and desires
Helps you discover your passion
Helps you identify your mental capacity
Some Ways to Find Yourself
Think back to a time when you felt the most comfortable, remember how you felt, and find ways to feel the same way again.
Understand your family dynamic. Are you the person your family created or the person you want to be?
Try new things, alone; Go to places by yourself
Figure out what’s important to YOU
Rid yourself of bad habits; make changes and take action
Silence your inner critic; Have a positive mindset
Express yourself with no regrets
Celebrate your strengths, and identify your weaknesses
Self reflect more, set personal goals
Learn to be okay with not being liked by everyone
Finding yourself and knowing who you truly are gives you a new perspective in life. There is always room for learning new things and exploring new places, and doing so allows you to grow and expand your horizon. We have to reevaluate ourselves at every stage of our lives. We change and so do our needs, wants, and desires. Learn to enjoy the journey and find the best things in life to fulfill yourself! As we continue on this lifelong journey of self-discovery and growth, it's important to remember that the most rewarding aspect lies within discovering yourself. There will be challenges along the way but if we stay focused on understanding ourselves better and growing from these experiences, we can unlock new opportunities for success in all areas of our lives.
